Wulai Waterfall, Taipei

Last November, I was in Taipei for a training course. It was a cloudy day on Saturday morning, thus I heading straight to Wulai district for waterfall shooting. Wulai district is a rural area in south of Taipei City. It is most renowned for its hot springs and aboriginal culture. There are several waterfalls in this area and the largest one is Wulai Waterfall, which represent the landmark of Wulai district. The waterfall is about 10 meters wide and 80 meters high. Surrounded by mountains, trees and river, the sight is simply spectacular!

Chinatown Heritage Centre, Singapore

Chinatown Heritage Centre is a cultural museum along the Pagoda Street in Singapore. The museum interior was design to imitate the real environment of Chinatown in the 1950s, allow you to feel the life of early Chinese migrants in Singapore. Here you can experience the various activities in 1950s, how they celebrate different traditional festival, and their daily life. Life was hard in the old days. It was the mixture of poverty, diseases, and harsh living condition. Such environment push the migrants seeking for solace, such as opium smoking, drinking, prostitution, gambling and secret society. This is a must visit place if you want to travel back to 1950 and experience the colorful past of Chinatown.

Haga Echo Park, Stockholm

Echo Temple is located in Haga Park, Stockholm. Haga Park is a popular natural reserve, with lake, park, woodland, and garden. Haga Park was founded by King Gustav III in late 18th century, therefore historically favoured by Swedish Royal Family. There are several interesting building within the park, such as Haga Palace, King Gustav III's Pavilion, Chinese Pavilion, Echo Temple, Copper Tent, etc. Echo temple was built in 1790 as a summer dining room for Gustav III who loved to dine outdoors.

Post Museum, Stockholm

Post Museum is located in the Old Town of Stockholm. It is housed in the oldest building in Swedish postal organization, dated back to 17th century. The building was purchased by post office in 1720, and remained the only post office in Stockholm until 1869. The museum was opened in 1906. Here you can find the unique postal history of Sweden and philatelic collections.

Terracotta Army in Stockholm

China's Terracotta Army Exhibition was held in the Far Eastern Antiquities Museum in Stockholm. It was a long queue outside of the museum. The Terracotta Army was placed in Secret Rock Gallery, underground of the museum, which is former naval base of Swedish Navy. Saint James Church (Swedish: Sankt Jakobs Kyrka) is a church in the central of Stockholm. This beautiful, divinely designed church is surrounded by the Kungstradgarden Park, Royal Opera and Gustaf Adolfs Square. The church is dedicated to apostle Saint James, the patron saint of travellers. The church dates back to 15 century, and it took a long time to complete, as a consequence it represent a wide range of architectonic styles, e.g. Late Gothic, Renaissance and Batoque.

Saint Eric Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral located on Sodermalm island of Stockholm, Sweden. It was built in 1892 and was promoted to the status of a cathedral in 1953, when the Roman Catholic diocese of Stockholm was established. The substantial increase in the number of Catholics in Stockholm, as a result of immigration after World War II, lead to the extension of the church that was inaugurated in 1983, at the 200th anniversary of the re-establishment of the Roman Catholic Church in Lutheran Sweden. The church named after Saint Eric, the 12th century king of Sweden and the patron saint of Stockholm.

Vaxholm Church, Stockholm

Vaxholm Church is located in Vaxholm Municipality of Stockholm, Sweden. The construction of the church was started in 1769 and completed in 1803. The church was initially named Gustav Church, but it is no longer in use. The building style of the church is neo-classical. The chancellery window is the altarpiece - The Shepherd of God. On the left of the altar is a wooden sculpture of Christ from the 17th century. There is also a Bible of Karl XII, printed in 1703. The organ was built in 1908 and rebuilt in 1969. There is a red bell tower and churchyard next to the church.

My Vintage Camera Collection

I have over 30 vintages camera, most of them are Brownie series and USSR camera. They are not expensive, range from US$2 to US$50 each, from flea market and eBay. Most of them are still working. For those who are interested, I strongly recommend McKeown's Price Guide to Antique and Classic Cameras, 2005-2006, which is one of the best guide available.

Karlberg Palace

Karlberg Palace is situated by the Karlberg canal Solna municipality of Stockholm. It was built in 1630 and today houses the Karlberg Military Academy. The space surrounding it serve as a recreational park accessible by the public.

The mission is to capture the Karlberg Palace during the golden hour - sunset. I reach the park 20 minutes before the sunset, walk around and search for a photogenic spot. This picture is compose of 7 exposure (-3EV to +3EV, 1 stop interval) tonemapped in Photomatix Pro. The idea is to capture full spectrum of light available during this time. Adjustment of curve and saturation was done in Photoshop CS3. In addition, a blue filter was added to enhance the mood of sunset. The noise reduction and sharpening was done in Noiseware Professional.

Taby Church

We took a day trip to Taby, a city located in the northen part of Stockholm. Taby is a historical city where you can find the runestones date from the late Viking Age and the Taby Church from medieval time.

Taby Church built during the latter half of the 13th century. The most fascinating feature of this church is the painted walls and ceilings. The painting was done by master painter, Albertus Pictor (1440-1507), known for his wallpaintings in numerous churches in Sweden. The main inspiration for the paintings was Biblia Pauperum, a collection of events from the Holy Bible. The paintings have never been whitewashed. This was done in many other medieval churches in Sweden when they were considered old-fashioned.

As usual, I took pictures of the interior of church from different angle, as well as 360 degree panorama. This is my favorite shot. The arch made an interesting picture, as it serves as a leading line which drawn the viewer's eye to the main subject. The HDR picture is compose of 3 exposure (-2EV, 0EV, +2EV) and tonemapped in Photomatix Pro. The adjustment of curve and saturation was done in Photoshop CS3, and further enhancement of detail was done in Topaz Adjust.
